Kalpulli Xihuacoatl

We are a traditional Aztec Dance Group under the La Palabra of our General Capitan Pedro España, Mesa Quinto Sol of Axochiapan, Morelos, Mexico. Our group was founded by our Capitana Irene Adame in August, 1996. Our mission is to continue the beautiful Aztec Traditions through new generations. We choose dance to express our culture because it’s a harmonious way to translate what our ancestors have taught us throughout the years. Everything we do, is transmitted through energy. With each movement we emit positive energy that connects us together in an almost supernatural way. Everything we do symbolizes something. We honor the four elements, Earth, Water, Fire, and Wind. The fire and smoke in the fire holder (Somador) represents the sun, fire and the center of the circle, like the center of our galaxy. The rattles on our feet are called ayoyotes and they come from a tree, thus representing earth. They make noise when we dance to hear the marking of the steps. The feathers in our regalia represent the wind. The feathers also showcase the elegance of the dance and allows the dancer to express their individual personality through different types of feather, colors and sizes. The conch shell (atekocoli) is used to announce and gather the group, it also represents the water. For more info: https://www.facebook.com/kalpullixihuacoatl/

Orquesta Taino is a Latin Dance band specializing in music from the islands of Puerto Rico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, as well as Central and South America. Some of the genres we perform include Salsa, Cha Cha Cha, Cumbia, Bachata, Merengue among others. While most of our music is in Spanish, we do have several English songs in our repertoire. We pride ourselves on being entertaining, versatile, and flexible with your needs.

Orquesta Taino (Tah-ee-no) began as a project to deliver salsa and latin jazz in August of 2010. The concept is very simple, an eight piece band with the sound and elegant sophistication of a big orchestra. Inspired by bands and individuals such as Ray Barretto, Tito Rodriguez, Tito Puente, Machito, Willie Rosario, Bobby Valentin, Manny Oquendo y Libre, Eddie Palmieri and many others, Orquesta Taino has developed into one of the most solid, hard- hitting Salsa bands in the area. The band is led by Percussionist and Lead Vocalist, Aaron Routtenberg. Aaron has toured and performed with some of the biggest names in Salsa including Jerry Rivera, Tito Nieves, Tito Rojas, Tony Vega, La India and more. The percussion section features two of the most respected percussionists on the West Coast in Carlos Caro and Jonathon Colon. On bass, Orquesta Taino is proud to present veteran band leader and musician, Gilbert Roman while the extremely talented Erick Peralta occupies the piano chair. The sizzling horn section is proud to have Abel Figueroa and Charlie Aguilar on trombone, while Joseph Camacho dazzles audiences with his baritone sax and vocals. With this strong vocal section, swinging rhythm section, and blazing horn section that will make you move, we invite you to experience a musical masterpiece that you won’t soon forget. Prepare yourselves for Orquesta Taino!
